Course communication / overview
Before you start, we would like to show you an overview of the course and provide you with some information about the course structure and navigation. Also your tutors will introduce themselves.
Kapitel 1: Hallo, ich bin …
In this chapter you will take your first steps in German. You will read and listen to German, as well as learning how to greet other people and introduce yourself.
Kapitel 2: Menschen in Deutschland
In this chapter you will get to know people from Germany. You will take a look at their jobs and their life situations.
Kapitel 3: Freunde und Co.
In this chapter you will learn more about leisure activities and various hobbys in Germany.
Kapitel 4: In der Stadt unterwegs
In this chapter we are out and about in town. You will learn about food and drink in German restaurants. Furthermore you will look at the leisure activities on offer in German towns and cities.
Kapitel 5: Einkaufen und Essen
In this chapter you will look at buying groceries and other people’s eating habits. You will also learn how to ask for something or ask someone to do something.
Kapitel 6: Mein Alltag
In this chapter you meet people going about their everyday lives and accompany them during their daily routine. You can provide information about your own everyday life, and you find out how to make appointments and arrange meetings.
Kapitel 7: Kommst du mit?
In this chapter you are introduced to different music festivals. You talk about music and your cultural preferences. You also involved in planning a party in a shared house.
Kapitel 8: Deine Wohnung ist schön
In this chapter you discover what different people’s homes are like, and find out how they live. You learn to describe a house or flat, and you can say what you like and don’t like.
Kapitel 9: Das war sehr schön
In this chapter you learn to talk about the past. You are introduced to some different leisure activities and you can evaluate these. Also you write emails, as well as giving and requesting information.
Kapitel 10: Kontakte im Alltag
In this chapter you look at different people’s internet usage. You also talk about your own internet usage. You learn more about contacts in everyday life, as well as how you can offer and accept help.
Kapitel 11: Entschuldigen Sie bitte
In this chapter you spend a weekend with a couple in Heidelberg, and get to know the town better. You also look at lateness and learn to apologise for being late.
Kapitel 12: Ich bin hier neu
In this chapter you are introduced to everyday life in a German company, and typical working processes. You follow Kim, a young trainee, during her first weeks in the company. You also look at making appointments and describing work processes.
Kapitel 13: Familie und Freunde
In this chapter you look at the theme of “Family”. First you find out about the members of a family and various different family models. Then you look at the everyday life and household of a family.
Kapitel 14: Der Sommerjob
In this chapter you look at different summer jobs and job applications first of all. You follow Julian doing his summer job for a newspaper.
Kapitel 15: Glück gehabt
This chapter deals with the subject of “Health”: you learn to make a doctor’s appointment, as well as hearing and seeing how to talk about your health when you visit the doctor.
Kapitel 16: Shoppen gehen
In this chapter you follow people as they buy a gift in a department store. You see and hear how they buy clothes, and you can talk about clothes.
Kapitel 17: Wir fahren weg
In this chapter you follow three girlfriends during a weekend in Munich, as well as planning activities. You look at travel arrangements and learn to complain.
Kapitel 18: Arbeit und Mobilität
In the last chapter of your course you find out about different jobs and working hours, you can understand and learn information about public transport and learn to give directions.

Here you will find the course vocabulary, the core vocabulary and an overview of phrases and grammar.
